Chiang Mai Slam 2024

“When I say poetry, you say Slam.
Poetry!
Slam!”

The annual global poetry movement, 100 Thousand Poets for Change, in collaboration with Magic Theatre Poetry Reading, is proud to host Chiang Mai Slam 2024! Whether you're performing, judging, or simply joining the audience, we welcome you to an evening of poetry, fire, and community reflection. And we have amazing prizes from the community!

🎤 What is Slam Poetry? 🎤
Slam poetry is a spoken word competition, but don’t let that scare you! It’s all about connecting with the community and hearing different experiences and viewpoints. Everyone is welcome to share a poem, whether you’re new or experienced! Whether personal, political, funny, or emotional, slam is a platform for anyone with a voice.

Theme: Home
What is home? Is it a place, a feeling, or a moment in time? For some, it's the streets they grew up on; for others, it's the faces that make them feel safe. Some are still searching for its meaning. Chiang Mai has become home to many of us — a place of warmth, tradition, kindness, and peace. But what does it mean to truly call this city our home? How do we preserve its humility and friendliness amidst the changes, challenges, and growing gentrification?

Slam Guidelines

1. Time Limit:
Poets have 3 minutes to perform. Exceeding the limit results in a 0.5-point deduction.

2. Original Content:
Poems must be the performer’s own work.

3. No Props, Costumes, or Music:
Slam focuses on the words and the performance.

4. Judging:
Judges are selected from the audience and will score each performance from 0.0 to 10.0. But remember, the point is not the points — the point is the poetry!

5. No Hate Speech!
We want to create a safe learning environment for everyone who's attending.
