Event Background

People jokingly say Ethereum is going through a "mid-life crisis." The symptoms of this crisis are reflected in the continuously falling ETH/BTC exchange rate and the "betrayal" of Layer 2 solutions seemingly draining resources from Layer 1. On a spiritual level, the ecosystem's narratives have been repeatedly proven false, leading to an unprecedented erosion of the community by nihilism. Now, this crypto nihilism is no longer confined to the Ethereum ecosystem but is spreading throughout the entire crypto space (except Bitcoin).

Those concerned about the industry's long-term development can't help but ask: What is truly core to this industry, and what can we be certain about? Beyond being a casino, what else can this industry offer? If we don't want to follow the "casino" path that extends from Bitcoin to Ethereum to Solana, what alternatives do we have?

Perhaps we can find some inspiration in Bitcoin's whitepaper. In this document, we can see how blockchain technology serves as a means to build "peer-to-peer electronic cash." What's crucial here is "peer-to-peer" rather than "decentralization"; what matters is giving people the freedom to hold digital assets directly without relying on third parties, not encouraging businesses to move everything onto the blockchain. We can see the distinction between the two types of utopias advocated by Bitcoin and Ethereum, and now is the time to discuss them and reflect on existing practices.

Event Content

We plan to hold a small seminar in Chiang Mai on November 6th from 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM. The seminar's theme is "From Bitcoin to P2P Economy," or it could also be called "From P2P Electronic Currency to P2P Economy."

The seminar features speakers including BTC Study's chief editor Ajian, Nos founder Rabble, Cryptape researcher Retric, Lightning Labs researcher YY, and Hashkey Capital's Head of Research Hu Zhiwei. Yao Xiang, Ajian, and Jan Xie will join as panel guests to share their observations, viewpoints, and thoughts.
